oneworld Sustainability
Air travel connects people, cultures, and businesses across the globe. It is part of the core infrastructure on which global economic commerce is built.
Despite its many benefits, aviation creates an environmental footprint. Aircraft emissions affect global ecosystems and local communities. As global demand for air travel grows, so does the urgency to address these impacts responsibly and sustainably.
At oneworld, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and leading the way toward a more sustainable future for aviation. For example:
Our member airlines are investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), and carbon removal programs.
oneworld, alongside our members and partners, have partnered with Breakthrough Energy Ventures to launch the oneworld BEV Fund, which is investing in next generation technologies to increase global access to SAF.
As an alliance, we are working collaboratively to improve operational efficiency and support global climate goals.
Through innovation and partnership, we aim to support our members’ commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions from operations by 2050. This pledge aligns with the efforts of the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting increases in global temperature to between 1.5 and 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
Reducing emissions won’t be easy, but at oneworld we are committed to serving as a connector of global policy work, new technology investments, emission reduction efforts, and innovative problem solving.
